If you aren’t hip to this latest beauty fad, jade face rollers are these cute little paint roller inspired tools made from, of course, jade! Jade face rollers are supposed to give your skin some well-deserved TLC and are purported to boost blood circulation, reduce under-eye swelling, and essentially “de-puff” your face. They are also supposed to help your products absorb into your skin easier, reduce the appearance of fine lines, brighten skin along with several other skin benefits.
Jade rollers were the tool of choice for many empresses and other members of the “who’s who” back in 17th century China, and recently they have been all over the beauty market in the US. To use, simply roll the tool with a little pressure, upwards and outwards from the center of your face. It typically has a larger stone at one end for your cheeks and forehead, with a smaller round stone for those hard-to-reach areas like under your eyes and around your mouth.
But are they worth the hype? Can these pretty massaging tools really help your skin? Well, the answer kind of yes but mostly no.
Here’s what Jade Face Rollers can definitively do according to skin care experts:
- They can reduce swelling in your face by increase some level of lymphatic drainage. The massaging motion can help the lymph fluid which gives the appearance of swelling drain properly.
- They can also get your blood circulating and blood circulation is always good!
- They can also help massage your skin products deeper into the skin.
- Jade is cool to touch and can feel soothing against the skin which can help relax you and indirectly result in less stress-related breakouts.
As for the rest of the claims however, are a little more difficult to prove. Though many women have had different experiences with jade rollers, the assertions that it can boost collagen production and all that other good stuff have yet to be verified. That said, if you still want to give jade rollers a try, go for it! Just don’t expect it to be your magical skin cure-all.
