Let’s figure out how to include 2017 hair trends on short hair. Most mainstream trends are not created with a pixie cut or short hair in mind. That being the case, we have to get a little innovative when it comes to incorporating some of the latest styles into our look. I love being creative and I’m convinced that I can create almost any style or some version of it, on my short hair.
Hell, I even created a braided halo crown on my pixie cut before, so don’t tell me I can’t do it. You can watch that video here Kaye Wright Short Hair Braided Halo.
With that in mind, let’s look at some of the upcoming trends and figure out how to incorporate them into our short hair styles, so that we can represent out in these short hair streets. I’ll tell you about 3 upcoming trends and how you can recreate them on your short relaxed hair.
How To Include 2017 Hair Trends If You Wear Short Hair
TRENDS FOR 2017
BRAIDS – Braids have been all over. And by themselves, braids are not hard to add to a short hair style. But, the issue with the most recent versions of braids is that they are loose and flowy braids. Many times they’re accompanied by tendrils of hair hanging down on either side of where the braids start and stop. Ok, we can’t do that, but we can mimic the overall look and feel of it.
To create braids, you can simply braid your hair or go for a 2-strand twist, which is what I prefer. 2 strands twists are easier to create on short hair and you can pull at them to loosen them and get the same kind of effect. If you’d like, you can also add a bit of braiding hair just to the braided section or the 2-stranded section and give yourself more to play with.
HAIR TIES – The braids on many of the hairstyles that are trending for 2017, are covered in hair ties or ribbons or velvet strips of fabric. This is something that piggy backs onto the braids trend. You can simply take the braid or 2-strand twist you create and add a piece of fabric down the length of the braid. If you opt to use braiding hair or other extensions, this is super easy because you don’t have to worry about binding your own hair too tight when you create a look like this.
CRINKLES – This is a throwback or retro inspired trend, but the zig zagged pattern of the 80’s has made an appearance.
This look is something you can create if you have a little length in the top of your hair. Try adding a few medium to small crimps to your hair where the length is and then use your fingers to fluff and give the style a little volume.
If you have more length to play with, or if you’re comfortable adding a few tracks, you can go for bigger crinkles and slick down the sides for a retro feel. Be sure to make the crinkles and crimps soft and touchable so that the style remains current and doesn’t slip into a dated look.
